Tell you more about who I am and where XGenealogy comes from

Let me tell you XGenealogy story

I will try to make it short. I am a student at Oxford Brookes University and I am doing a MSc in Computer Science. The year past and comes the time where you have to choose a subject for the dissertation project.

First, I wanted to do an SVG editor, but my tutor judged that it was not original enough. I remembered that I promised to my dad to create a genealogical software for him (silly promise). So, I thought why not doing that for my dissertation project, but I needed to be original to validate this idea. Therefore, I decided to have genealogy data stored in XML. Then, XSLT arrived naturally, because what is the point to have genealogy data in XML format? You have to do something with the data. So, I decided that the program should be able to produce output in various format.

When, I first wrote the proposal I did not know about GEDCOM 6.0 only about GEDCOM 5.5. I knew about FOP, that is possible to create html and XSL-FO with XSLT and I have never written a stylesheet.

This is pretty much what happened.

Me, Myself and I

In case, you did not notice my name on each page, my name is Alixe BHAGOOA. I am french and I was born in French Guiana. I left it to study at University.

First, I spent three years in Paris studying computer science then I went to Oxford for an MSc in Computer Science. I plan to do another MSc in September at Westminster University (London) in Interactive Multimedia this time. I always wanted to do something with multimedia, so it will be great.
